When Great Britain Sport Jujitsu chose Lowton Community Hub as its Northern home, it marked an important moment in the sport’s developing pathway in the UK. Since then, the hub has become a regular training ground for the GB Sport Jujitsu cadet and junior squads, hosting monthly training days, shared coaching sessions, and a growing community of athletes committed to excellence.
That commitment has now been rewarded on the world stage.
Celebrating the Success of GB Sport jujitsu
In November 2025, Megan Thyer made history at the JJIF World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, earning the title of World Champion in her category. Competing against elite athletes from across the globe, Megan demonstrated exceptional skill, tactical awareness, and resilience throughout the tournament, ultimately becoming the first youth competitor from Great Britain Jujitsu to stand atop the podium under JJIF rules.
Her achievement represents more than individual success. It reflects the strength of the training environment at Lowton Community Hub, where determination, discipline, and community support come together to help young athletes reach their potential. The squad’s regular training days have brought together dedicated leaders, athletes, and supporters to build skill, confidence, and competitive experience — and Megan’s success is the clearest sign yet that this approach is working.
The hub has welcomed GB Sport Jujitsu leaders and coaches, helping shape sessions and provide space for athletes to train and grow. Luke Brown, Founder Trustee of Lowton Community Hub and Director of Leigh Judo Club, has even delivered training sessions for the squads, sharing his experience and encouraging young competitors as they prepare for competition.
"The environment, the facilities, and the support we receive at Lowton Community Hub allows athletes to focus, train hard, and grow together. Megan’s world title is a fantastic achievement, but it also reflects the wider pathway being built. We’re proud of what’s developing here and excited about what comes next."
magic of this memorable event
Being part of Megan’s journey and the wider squad’s development fills the hub with pride. It’s not simply about medals — it’s about the pathway the hub provides: a place where young people can train under expert guidance, build lifelong skills, and gain experiences they remember for years. As Megan’s victory powerfully shows, the hub’s role in supporting British talent is already making an impact.
This world-class achievement reminds everyone involved that when community space, quality coaching, and athlete dedication come together, remarkable things can happen. Lowton Community Hub continues to stand behind GB Sport Jujitsu and looks forward to supporting more world-class journeys in the future.
